Back Pain in Adults

back pain in an adult

Back pain is the most common reason adults seek help from an osteopath. Osteopathy is a hands-on form of healthcare that focuses on treating musculoskeletal pain and reduced mobility. If you have recently injured yourself or have been dealing with a persistent issue, an osteopathic assessment can often help put you on the road to recovery.

Osteopaths specialise in conservative care that does not rely on medication or surgery. When investigations such as blood tests or scans are needed, your osteopath can liaise with your GP or specialist to arrange them. Our aim is to reduce pain quickly and then rehabilitate you, helping to prevent the problem from returning whenever possible.

Back pain can begin suddenly. You may have lifted something, slipped, or simply woken up in pain and found it difficult to move. In other cases, the problem may recur from time to time and gradually worsen. Some people live with chronic back pain for years, experiencing flare-ups that disrupt daily life. Many patients recognise one or more of these situations.

An osteopath is often an excellent place to start. We take a detailed history, carry out a thorough assessment, and decide whether osteopathic treatment is appropriate. If your condition requires another form of care, such as input from a surgeon or physician, we will guide you in the right direction.

Depending on the diagnosis and the degree of pain you are in determines how we treat you. Osteopaths are able to adapt to you specific needs in how we position you on our treatment table and in how we perform hands on treatment. Making it as comfortable and as effective as possible and getting you better fast is our aim.
